The purpose of light They have all had an opinion on light and a purpose for light. This issue of Louis Home takes you on an amazing journey from modern architecture to the raw walls of a slaughterhouse. We also have the pleasure of introducing two new faces to our gallery of light designers – Danish Øivind Alexander Slaatto and Japanese Oki Sato from Nendo Studio. Both have very clear views on their products and on quality living and lighting. Perhaps there is a purpose in everything. We believe light should be pleasant and human-friendly and help perfect the experience of a room. We hope you will be inspired to explore new possibilities for the way you light your home. Because light brings happiness, and the right light makes the world a slightly more beautiful and pleasant place to be. Attitudes, lighting philosophy or design concepts. Call it what you will, but what it boils down to is that at Louis Poulsen we create light which we believe in – and for a purpose. This attitude to light has characterised our work since it began in 1924 and has been greatly influenced by our association with Poul Henningsen. PH was a true pioneer. A man with strong beliefs which still define our approach to light, quality and design. Technically speaking, a light fixture is a shade or a reflector surrounding a light source. But fortunately it is also much more than that. Poul Henningsen, Arne Jacobsen, Christian Flindt, Louise Campbell, Ross Lovegrove and many others have applied their precision, creativity, ingenuity, aesthetics and beliefs to give light both form and beauty through their light fixtures.
